A goodbye party, a gut feeling, and a scene that didn't exist yet

The story of BYAS

Yasin Borry got kicked out of school maybe six or seven times. Got fired from jobs. Wandered around Europe not really knowing where he belonged. He was always good with computers, always obsessed with music, but there was no plan, no path, no industry connection. Just a kid in Antwerp, Belgium, who couldn't sit still and loved sounds that most people around him had never heard of.

The DJ thing started almost by accident. A friend was throwing a goodbye party before moving to Australia. Yasin had been messing around on a little Hercules controller at home, teaching himself to mix, never really thinking it would go anywhere. But that night, playing for 20 or 30 friends, something clicked. The music did something to the room that he couldn't explain, and from that moment the obsession had a direction.

The hashtag that changed everything

The early career was chaos. No bookings. Under 150 followers on Instagram. Maybe 10 posts on a brand new profile. But Yasin had started doing something most people would call weird: sitting down every morning, closing his eyes, and writing down things as if they were already true. "I am a successful DJ with bookings every month." He didn't fully believe it. But he kept doing it.

One day, something told him to add #AntwerpDJ to his posts. There were only about 56 posts under that hashtag. His logical mind said it was pointless. His gut said do it. A few days later, a Swedish fashion brand called NA-KD with 2 million followers searched that exact hashtag looking for a DJ in Antwerp. They found Yasin. They booked him for eight influencer events, gave him clothing, and suddenly the kid with no bookings had gigs every week.

"I had played outside my house maybe three times in my life. And then this brand gives me eight bookings."

From those events, doors started opening. He played Club Ampere in Antwerp, Club Sotto's in Brussels, shared stages with Like Mike, Makasi, Jaydee, and Magit Cacoon. Within months he went from zero to weekly bookings. But the DJ grind was wearing him down physically, and he started looking for a way to build a life around music without depending entirely on the next booking.

The playlist idea that hit like a thunderstrike

A trip to Bali in 2019 changed everything. Everyone there was working online, building businesses from their laptops, living on their own terms. Yasin had never even considered that world. Through a chain of connections and a dinner that felt like fate, he landed a role at a multi-million dollar e-commerce company, learning performance marketing and paid advertising from the inside.

The job wasn't the dream, but it was the education of a lifetime. He learned how marketing actually works and how powerful it is. Not just the numbers, but the psychology of attention, the mechanics of scaling a brand online, and how to read what people really respond to. He was also running ads for his own music on the side, always losing money. The streaming revenue never broke even. But the e-commerce experience planted a seed: he now understood how to approach promotion in a completely different way.

What if he stopped advertising one song and started advertising one playlist? The logic was simple. Running an ad that says "listen to my song" is asking something from people. Running an ad that says "here's a playlist of amazing deep house" is giving them something. And inside that playlist, you can place your own tracks alongside others.

He told his family he wasn't going to look for another job. The reaction was what you'd expect. Not everyone gets it when you say you want to build a career around Spotify playlists. But he trusted the feeling. He pooled his savings and called his friend Jens from Gobi Desert Collective, an organic house duo in Belgium with about 400 monthly listeners at the time. "I have an idea. If it works, we might not have to work ever again." Jens jumped in. Today they're at 250,000 monthly listeners.

That was the beginning of Vibe Agency, now one of the most influential playlist networks in the deep house, afro house, and melodic house space. Yasin's own music has crossed 6 million streams. The Vibe Agency network has driven over 100 million streams for artists and labels worldwide. The playlist system gave him what the DJ grind never could: the freedom to live off music, content, and gigs on his own terms.

Thailand chose him

After touring and living in Mexico, Yasin stopped in Thailand for a week. Just passing through. But the country had a magnetism he wasn't prepared for.

"Bangkok is the place where all the misfits come together. The people who don't feel like they belong anywhere else."

That one week never ended. For the first year he mostly wandered. Watched the scene. And the more he saw, the more he felt something was missing.

Thailand's nightlife had energy, but it was all surface. Everywhere was EDM or hip-hop. Clubs felt repetitive, soulless, built around bottle service and big drops. The rooftops were beautiful but the music didn't match. If you wanted the deep, dreamy, melodic side of house music, the kind that hypnotizes a room, the kind that takes you somewhere, it simply didn't exist here.

Deep house in Thailand was barely a whisper. Afro house was nonexistent. Organic house, melodic house, tribal sets — the sounds that pack venues from Berlin to Ibiza to Tulum — had no home in Bangkok. No curated events. No community. No collective. Just scattered DJs playing to crowds who had never been given the option.

On his second day in the city, he walked into a rooftop venue and saw a DJ booth overlooking the skyline. He started visualizing himself playing on rooftops like that every morning. Two years later, he played that exact spot.

Building Deep House Thailand from a condo rooftop

It started at a 12x12 DJ gig where Yasin met a DJ named Siggi. They clicked immediately, and later met up to talk about an idea that had been brewing: what if they just threw their own party?

December 2023. A Christmas party at Yasin's condo. 80 to 90 people showed up in seven days. Deep house, afro house, melodic house, tribal beats. Sounds that Bangkok's nightlife didn't have a home for.

Next came Spectrum Rooftop Bar, 250+ people, fully sold out. Then Mustache, Baccarat, SIN Rooftop Bar, MOJJO. Pool parties. Ice bath raves. Coffee raves. Hundreds of people showing up for sounds they'd been searching for. A coffee rave inside a Porsche gallery that became one of their most talked-about events. Each one building on the last.

As the collective grew, so did the crew. Cameron Glasgow, a DJ and producer with serious creative energy, became a key part of the team. He brought his own style to the decks, helped shape the visual identity, and became one of the driving forces behind DHT's content and events. Together with Siggi and a growing roster of talented DJs, the collective became bigger than any one person.

The collective got a name: Deep House Thailand. What started as two DJs throwing a condo party had become something Bangkok was genuinely missing. A platform for deep house, afro house, organic house, and melodic house. A collective putting Thailand on the map across Southeast Asia for the genres that global nightlife culture was already built on, but that had never had a proper home here. Bangkok's fastest-growing deep house collective, putting Thailand on the map for deep, afro, melodic, and organic house.

The sound

Three words: dreamy, tribal, global. The sets weave through deep house, afro house, melodic house, organic house, and indie dance. The sound sits somewhere between Monolink, Keinemusik, Black Coffee, and Lane 8. Bongo percussion, plucky arps, melodies that stay with you on the walk home.

BYAS in the studio

From Club Ampere in Antwerp and Club Sotto's in Brussels to rooftops across Bangkok and Thailand, beach clubs in Bali, stages in Mexico, Croatia, and Slovenia. Along the way, brands like H&M, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Pull&Bear, and NA-KD have trusted him to curate soundtracks for fashion events and car premieres.

What's next

The timing couldn't be better. EDC has landed in Thailand. Tomorrowland has already announced and sold out their first Southeast Asian edition. The global festival circuit is turning its attention to the region, and the infrastructure that Deep House Thailand built from scratch, event by event, community by community, is exactly what this moment needs.

Deep House Thailand is expanding. More events across Bangkok, more collaborations with international artists, and a growing presence in Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Phangan, and Koh Samui. The vision is to become the most trusted platform for deep house, afro house, melodic house, and organic house events in Southeast Asia. A collective that connects expats, Thai locals, digital nomads, and music lovers around one thing: the belief that nightlife can be intentional, beautiful, and deeply musical.

Alongside DHT, Yasin continues to release music as BYAS, grow the Vibe Agency playlist network, and build a community of artists and creators who believe in doing things differently. The playlisting business, the DJ career, the content, the events, all of it feeds the same vision: a life built entirely around music, on your own terms.

The kid from Antwerp who got kicked out of school and visualized his way into a career is still following the same instinct. Still closing his eyes every morning and imagining what comes next. The difference is that now, when he opens them, the room is full.
